I Am astounded at the council response to Andy Coleman when he was told to send his bottles to landfill (August 26), and fully agree with Jan Clark of FoE (September 2).

Neither of these correspondents have mentioned what I believe to be a pertinent point, ie Andy presumably pays his business rates (national non-domestic rates) to the council to cover public services the council provides, such as rubbish removal and recycling, just as ordinary council tax payers also pay for these things.
