Union Leader: I Took Action to Save Jobs ; Pressure Mounts Amid Vote of No Confidence Claims
THE trade union leader of Scunthorpe's 150 postmen and women has refused to resign after signing an agreement with the Royal Mail which means them spending more time on their delivery rounds. Pete Hopper, 58, a postman for 20 years and leader of the local Communication Workers' Union (CWU), said: "I took the action to save the jobs of my colleagues and, as a result, we have created four new posts.

LINCOLNSHIRE Police are inviting members of the public, community groups and people in need of assistance through disability hardship to apply for funding in support of charitable causes, projects or events. The pilot scheme is making available four grants of up to Pounds 500 to help towards any charitable or worthwhile cause.
Cricketer's Shirt to Go Under Hammer
EX-ENGLISH cricketer Mike Gatting is the latest sports celebrity to offer support for a charity auction in Scunthorpe in memory of local soldier Anthony Lombardi, who was killed on duty in Afghanistan. Kevin Kilmore, the landlord of the Beacon Hotel who is hosting the auction, said Gatting's autographed England shirt would be among the lots going under the hammer at 7.30pm tomorrow.
Judging Begins to Find Region's Top Lifestyle Team
JUDGING has started for the 2009 Humberside Police Lifestyle project as teams from North Lincolnshire rushed to get their log books handed in. Local youngsters who have been completing chores like dog- walking and gardening for elderly neighbours, stand to win prizes.
THE organisers behind the When You Wish Upon A Star charity are urging North Lincolnshire's fundraisers to keep on going - as there are more wishes which need granting. Yesterday, the Scunthorpe Telegraph reported that the magical Pounds 60,000 had been raised to take poorly youngsters to Lapland to see Father Christmas.
A FREE event being held at North Lincolnshire Museum this weekend takes place tomorrow and not Sunday as previously reported. A Grand Day Out takes place from 11am to 3pm at the museum on Oswald Road, Scunthorpe.
ANTIQUE enthusiasts from North Lincolnshire will be heading to the Lincolnshire Showground this Sunday for a giant fair. Upwards of 200 stalls will be selling goods between 9am and 4pm.
