A SPOOKY North Lincolnshire band is calling time on its three- year run just after Hallowe'en, the Fly was sad to learn this week. Smile Poltergeist took the Rock Open trophy in 2007 but the four- piece heavy rock band from Barton-Upon-Humber have decided to go their separate ways.

Future of Corus Is in Our Skilled Hands ; Steelworks Praises Latest Batch of Graduating Apprentices
THE future is bright for youngsters at Corus in Scunthorpe, according to one newly qualified electrical craftsman. Brett Smith, 22, of Bottesford, has just completed a four-year programme in engineering, gaining essential qualifications and hands-on experience on the Scunthorpe steelworks. And to top it all off, he has managed to secure a job in the BOS plant on the works.
Charity Proud of Strong Community Spirit
A SCUNTHORPE charity shop has thanked customers after they signed a pledge in record numbers. More than 530 people said they would speak up or do something if they saw a disabled person being treated unfairly.

Patients Are Urged to Have Their Say
HOSPITAL patients are being urged to fill in a questionnaire and have their say on their experiences of Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust's in-patient services. A total of 850 patients who have been treated as an in-patient at one of the trust's three hospitals - Scunthorpe General Hospital, Grimsby's Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital and Goole and District Hospital - during June will be randomly selected to fill in the survey.

Victim Fled Robbery in 'Blind Panic' ; Man Cheats Death in Marina Plunge
A ROBBERY victim from Barton has thanked rescuers who pulled him from Hull Marina after he fell in while fleeing his attacker in a "blind panic". Defenceless Paul Ducker, 33, of Barton-upon-Humber, was punched 15 times by Gavin Wordsworth, 26, of north Hull, before being robbed of his cash cards and mobile phone in the city centre attack.
Diversions Put Place As 'Greenway' Project Begins
DIVERSIONS are in place to ensure traffic can get around the Brumby Wood Lane closure for the next week. The road is closed for work on the Pounds 3.4-million Sustrans Connect2 project which is set to create a traffic-free greenway for pedestrians and cyclists across Scunthorpe.
