Raising Buckets of Cash for Campaign ; Shoppers Making Dreams Come True
A SUPERMARKET is raising buckets of cash to help the Telegraph's Make A Wish Come True campaign. Asda, on Burringham Road, Scunthorpe, has been raising money all week for the charity When You Wish Upon A Star to help it send 90 sick and terminally ill children to Lapland for the day.
Budding Filmmakers Set for Screening
A BUMPER number of budding film makers have submitted their short films to a local festival. A total of 55 short films have been entered in the Scunthorpe Young People's Film Festival 2009, from North Lincolnshire, the Yorkshire and Humber region and as far away as Northern Ireland.
Talks On Pounds 1 Bridge Toll Trial ; Delegation Will Meet Minister
A DELEGATION of MPs, business leaders and council officials will meet the Transport Minister to discuss a trial of a Pounds 1 toll on the Humber Bridge. Brigg and Goole MP Ian Cawsey will head the delegation, which will travel to London to meet Sadiq Khan on October 26, with East Yorkshire MP Greg Knight.
We're Rock Stars! ; Teens Get a Kick From Being Open Champs
FIVE Scunthorpe teenagers known as 4Kicks were jumping for joy after storming home in the town's annual Rock Open final this week. Lead-singer and guitarist Christos Spiteri, 17, and his four pals took the crown in the 32nd annual battle of the bands organised by Telegraph parent company GSMG and North Lincolnshire Council.
ADRENALINE junkies throughout North Lincolnshire are being urged to take the plunge to raise cash for meningitis research. The Meningitis Research Foundation (MRF) is seeking daredevils for a parachute challenge at the Target Skysports Parachute Centre in Hibaldstow.
A WEDDING fayre will be staged at the Wortley House Hotel in Scunthorpe this Sunday from noon until 4pm. The organisers, who have attracted more than 30 exhibitors, have promised guests free live entertainment.
AN OPEN day will be hosted by the staff at the Vale of Ancholme Specialist Technology and Music College in Brigg next Tuesday. Tours of the Grammar School Road campus will start at 9.30am and the evening presentation will be at 7pm.
A NEW indoor six-aside soccer league will be run each Thursday night at the St Lawrence Academy in Doncaster Road, Scunthorpe. The organisers at Football Mundial hope to have 16 sides in the contest and it's free to enter.
Meal and Cabaret Act for Charity Cash
STAFF at the Wortley House Hotel in Scunthorpe are to join forces with the town's Pentagon Rotary Club in raising funds for the Children In Need appeal on November 13. A Pounds 25 per head four-course meal is on the menu along with cabaret from local singer Ian 'Mash' Baxter and the hotel's resident disco from 7pm until 1am.
